Legislation for Senior Positions Workshop & Mock Trial

Brought to you by Mineplex & McCullough Robertson

Mineplex and McCullough Robertson Lawyers offer a thought-provoking, interactive and contextualised two-day workshop and mock trial, specifically designed for senior positions in the SSE's management structure and corporate Health & Safety professionals, to challenge them on how to fulfil their obligations.

This workshop aims to deliver a meaningful learning experience by examining past incidents to prevent future occurrences, all from the perspective of people holding senior positions.

In this unique workshop, participants will explore:

Day 1:

  • The history of Queensland mining legislation, highlighting significant events such as the Brady Report and the Grosvenor Board of Inquiry. This will provide essential context for understanding the current mining safety and health legislative framework.
  • The fundamentals of legislation, with a focus on how the site’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) aligns with the legislation.
  • The importance of the SSEs management structure to effectively manage a mine's "Material Unwanted Events".
  • The responsibilities of fulfilling obligations as a Risk Owner.
  • The processes necessary for implementing effective risk management principles, including critical control management.
  • The processes required to establish a successful supervisory group that can meet its obligations by exercising "reasonable precautions" and demonstrating "proper diligence".
  • Strategies to avoid the pitfalls of ineffective incident analysis.

Day 2:

  • Cameron Dean from McCullough Robertson Lawyers will join the workshop on Day 2 to discuss the legal aspects of the Queensland coal mining legislation.
  • Embedded learning by conducting a mock trial.

Our mock trial serves as an impactful educational tool for senior mining personnel and corporate officials.
