Legislation for Supervisors (AQF 4) and Superintendents (AQF 5) Workshop

Mineplex offers practical, context-specific one-day workshops designed for frontline supervisors and superintendents to equip them with the knowledge, know-how, and confidence to fulfil their obligations.

These workshops are delivered by an experienced mining professional with over 20 years of experience as an SSE.

This workshop aims to deliver a meaningful learning experience by examining past incidents to prevent future occurrences, all from the perspective of a mine's frontline supervision.

Key Learning Outcomes:

In this workshop, participants will engage in an in-depth exploration of the following topics:

  • The history of Queensland mining legislation, highlighting significant events such as the Brady Report and the Grosvenor Board of Inquiry. This will provide essential context for understanding the current mining safety and health legislative framework.
  • The fundamentals of legislation, with a focus on how the site’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) aligns with the legislation.
  • Identify key supervisor responsibilities and learn how to fulfil them by taking "reasonable precautions" and exercising "proper diligence".
  • Review where frontline supervisors and superintendents fit into the SSEs management structure to effectively manage a mine's "Material Unwanted Events".
  • Implement and oversee effective strategies for risk management, incident management, and communication & consultation.
  • Review past incidents to avoid repeating them in the future from the viewpoint of the supervisor.

These workshops are presented by someone with two decades as an SSE
