Legislation for Senior Positions Workshop

Mineplex offers a powerful, thought-provoking, interactive and contextualised one-day workshop specifically designed for the senior positions held in the SSE's management structure and corporate Health & Safety professionals to challenge them on how to approach fulfilling their obligations.

These workshops are delivered by an experienced mining professional with over 20 years of experience as an SSE.

Key Learning Outcomes:

In this workshop, participants will engage in an in-depth exploration of the following topics:

  • The history of Queensland mining legislation, highlighting significant events such as the Brady Report and the Grosvenor Board of Inquiry. This will provide essential context for understanding the current mining safety and health legislative framework.
  • The fundamentals of legislation, with a focus on how the site’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) aligns with the legislation.
  • The importance of the SSEs management structure to effectively manage a mine's "Material Unwanted Events".
  • The responsibilities of fulfilling obligations as a Risk Owner.
  • The processes necessary for implementing effective risk management principles, including critical control management.
  • The processes required to establish a successful supervisory group that can meet its obligations by exercising "reasonable precautions" and demonstrating "proper diligence".
  • Strategies to avoid the pitfalls of ineffective incident analysis.

This workshop aims to deliver a meaningful learning experience by examining past incidents to prevent future occurrences, all from the perspective of people holding senior positions.
